When it comes to internet usage via mobile, mobility is the main advantage. But the 3G mode can easily drain out your battery in about 5-6 hours. Unless you need to download or upload huge files, you are better off with the ordinary gprs/edge.
3G is necessary if you make videocalls very often. If you use internet on pc with your phone as a modem, 3G is better.
But, if you just need to check email and stuff, traditional gprs is always the better option, it is economic rather than 3G.
The battery draining issue while using 3G almost leaves your phone dead on the way,
So the best thing to do about this is to switch back to 2g when you have finished using it.
If your needs can be accomplished without 3G, why spend more money and suffer 'low battery' warnings?
Decide for yourself :)
